Why We Quarantine
Every fish sold by Discus Direct™ is quarantined for at least 3 days before shipping. This observation period gives us time to assess condition, behavior, respiration, appetite, and overall readiness for transit. The goal is simple: shipping day never takes priority over fish condition.
What We Watch
During quarantine we look for normal swimming and posture, appropriate respiration, feeding response, visible injuries, abnormal waste, external irritation, and other signs that a fish may need additional observation. Quarantine is an observation and preparation process, not a guarantee that an animal can never develop a health problem.
Preparing for Shipment
Fish that appear ready for travel are prepared for the scheduled shipping window. Packaging and timing are planned around the species, destination, weather, and carrier conditions. If conditions are not appropriate, shipment may be delayed to protect the fish.
What Customers Should Do
Have a stable aquarium ready before delivery and monitor tracking closely. New fish should be observed after arrival, and customers who maintain a separate quarantine aquarium can use it as an additional biosecurity step before introducing new livestock to an established collection.
Our Fish-First Standard
An order deadline does not override livestock welfare. If a fish does not look ready to travel, it should remain in our care until a safer decision can be made.
