There Is No Magic Number
The appropriate group depends on aquarium size, fish size, filtration, maintenance, aquascape, and whether established pairs become territorial.

Plan for Adults
A group of small juveniles can look lightly stocked at first. Plan the aquarium around their eventual size and increased bioload.

Watch the Hierarchy
Observe feeding access, hiding, dark coloration, persistent chasing, and weight. A fish that is repeatedly excluded may require intervention.

Pairs Are Different
A bonded or breeding pair has different space and social considerations from a juvenile grow-out group or community display.
